CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Humanities Council is looking for places around the state that are interested in hosting a traveling exhibit on the role of sports in American culture.

The council says it is sponsoring a state tour of the new Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit "Hometown Teams" beginning February 2014.

Officials are seeking applications from museums, historical societies, historic sites, and cultural and community organizations interested in hosting the exhibit and providing public programs about their local sports culture.

There's no charge for selected venues to participate in the tour and program funds will be provided to each site by the council.

The deadline to apply is March 1. Six sites will be selected in the spring of 2013.
