MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A Pennsylvania couple with a history of giving to West Virginia University has donated more than $209,000 worth of stock to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Clarksburg native Maurice Wadsworth and his wife, JoAnn, are alumni who now live in Mechanicsburg.

WVU announced Monday that they have endowed the Wadsworth Graduate Fellowship for doctoral candidates. At least three students per year should benefit.

Maurice Wadsworth spent his career at Gannett Fleming in Harrisburg, Pa. He started out as a bridge design engineer and worked his way up, eventually becoming a vice president, president and chairman of the board. He retired in 1996.

In 2006, the Wadsworths endowed a professorship.

Their latest gift was made as part of the ongoing "State of Minds'' fund-raising campaign.
