Transformer explosion leads to East End power outage

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A transformer explosion at the corner of Piedmont Road and Slack Street in Charleston caused a power outage and affected hundreds of people on parts of the East End Monday night.

The transformer, which blew at about 9:30 p.m., led to the outage, according to a Metro 911 dispatcher. She was unsure when power would be restored.

According to Appalachian Power, 725 customers were without power in Kanawha County at 11:30 p.m.
