CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Senate President Jeffrey Kessler and Senate Majority Leader John Unger will join hundreds of kids and families to lay out a 10-point platform to address child poverty in the state.
The event at the Capitol today is the kickoff of the "Our Children, Our Future'' campaign put on by the West Virginia Healthy Kids and Families Coalition.
They will address wide-ranging issues such as Medicaid expansion, teen pregnancy, school truancy, healthy food, prescription drug abuse and prison reform.
The campaign platform is the result of 48 community meetings held across the state over the last six months.
Kessler and Unger have both been integral in creating a new Senate select committee on childhood poverty.
