The Herald-Dispatch reports that council members introduced and advanced a proposed ordinance repealing the 1 percent occupation tax on Monday. A vote is expected March 11.
A lawsuit challenging the tax's legality is pending in Kanawha County Circuit Court. Plaintiffs include Steel of West Virginia and Cabell County Commissioner Bob Bailey.
The council approved the tax in 2011 to replace the city's user fee. An injunction has blocked it from going into effect.
The tax was part of a tax reform package stemming from Huntington's participation in the state's home rule experiment, which gives more power to municipalities.
