Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Military families will be able to purchase discounted groceries this weekend at a sale sponsored by the West Virginia National Guard. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the National Guard Armory, 1701 Coonskin Drive.

The sale will feature fresh meat and produce, household cleaning and personal care items, canned goods, snacks, pet food, water and sports drinks and a variety of nonperishable goods.

Current and retired military members from any branch of service who have a valid military identification card are eligible to shop at the sale. Military dependents with a valid military dependent identification card may shop without their sponsor. A Veterans Card (VA blue and white) is not a valid form of military identification. Cash, checks, debit cards and credit cards are accepted for payment. The use of coupons is highly encouraged.

National Guard officials have partnered with the Defense Commissary Agency to bring the on-site commissary sale program to military installations around the state. Additional sales will be held throughout the year at armory locations around the state. Specific dates and times for those sales will be announced when plans are finalized.

Military commissaries provide groceries to service members, retirees and their families at average savings of more than 30 percent off commercial prices.
