MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- WVU Hospitals is seeking the state's approval to acquire a cancer center in Fairmont.

The Dominion Post reports that the hospital system has applied for a certificate of need from the West Virginia Health Care Authority to buy the Fairmont Regional Cancer Center from Oncology Services Inc. The acquisition would cost $11 million. WVU Hospitals also would spend about $3 million to buy and install treatment equipment.

The authority is expected to make a decision in mid-April.
