PINCH, W.Va. -- About a dozen Kanawha County sheriff's deputies were on the job late Thursday trying to track down the perpetrator of a home invasion in Pinch that left a  woman seriously hurt.

Sgt. Sean Snuffer of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said emergency officials initially got a call about an unresponsive woman at about 2:30 p.m. in Pinch. On finding the unconscious woman at her home on Church Drive, deputies determined she was the victim of a home invasion.

Snuffer said the 74-year-old victim was taken to CAMC General Hospital, where she remained in stable but critical condition late Thursday. He said sheriff's deputies were canvassing the area, talking with neighbors and looking for potential witnesses to the break-in.

Snuffer said deputies aren't yet sure what kind of weapon was used to attack the woman. "We're going to be here late throughout the night processing the crime scene," he said.
