CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Dr. Allen R. Mock has been named the state's interim chief medical examiner.

Department of Health and Human Resources Secretary Rocco Fucillo announced Mock's appointment Thursday.

Mock has served as deputy chief medical examiner for more than two years.

Mock replaces Dr. James Kaplan, who is stepping down after 10 years. Kaplan will stay on as a staff pathologist at the medical examiner's office.

Mock has several degrees from Louisiana State University. He completed his residency in surgical and clinical pathology at the University of Tennessee.
