MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A nonprofit group that promotes alternative energy in Appalachia has donated a solar array for Morgantown's new farmers' market.
Aaron Sutch of the Mountain Institute says Morgantown Market Place will be West Virginia's first solar-powered farmers' market. The array on the new pavilion should be completed in March and will include an electric vehicle charging station.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A nonprofit group that promotes alternative energy in Appalachia has donated a solar array for Morgantown's new farmers' market.
Aaron Sutch of the Mountain Institute says Morgantown Market Place will be West Virginia's first solar-powered farmers' market. The array on the new pavilion should be completed in March and will include an electric vehicle charging station.
The array has 12 panels with a capacity of more than 3 kilowatts.
The project was developed with two West Virginia companies, the Downstream Strategies environmental consulting group in Morgantown and Mountain View Solar of Berkeley Springs.
Sutch says the market is a great way to demonstrate clean, locally produced energy.
The farmers' market is open every Saturday morning from May through October, and some winter weekends.
