CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man allegedly tried to run over a Charleston police officer this morning, then led police on a chase on the interstate before he was stopped.

The man was allegedly trying to break down a door in the 35th Street area in Kanawha City when he was confronted by Charleston police, according to a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher. The man then got in his truck and tried to run over the police unit, then fled west on Interstate 64.

Charleston police pursued the truck - which was orange with flames on the back -- to the Montrose Drive exit of I-64, but said they were breaking off the pursuit there.

The driver of the truck was then apprehended by State Police between the MacCorkle Avenue and Dunbar exits of I-64. The driver's name and other information was not immediately available.
