WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Putnam school board members adopted next year's school calendar on Monday night.

The first day for students will be Aug. 22 and the last day is May 30, 2014.

The 2013-14 calendar, Superintendent Chuck Hatfield said, is similar to this year's with the only major change being spring break -- scheduled for April 14 through 18.

Some parents voiced concerns at previous meetings after Kanawha County board members voted to begin classes on Aug. 9, the county's earliest-ever start date.

Also at the meeting, board members approved a change in Internet providers and accepted a $25,305 bid from Frontier Communications.

Suddenlink had been the provider, but Hatfield said the service is put out for bid every three or four years.

In other business, board members met in closed session for about 20 minutes with Wendy Davis, a county school bus driver, and her attorney.

Davis wouldn't comment on what was discussed; neither would Hatfield.
