Weston considers bath salts ban

WESTON, W.Va. -- Another West Virginia city is considering banning bath salts and other synthetic drugs within its borders.

An ordinance drafted by Weston City Council is similar to bans adopted by Clarksburg and Shinnston.

The council approved the proposed ordinance's first reading Monday night. A public hearing must be held before a final vote is taken.

Mayor Julia Spelsberg told The Exponent Telegram that city officials want to prevent sellers of synthetic drugs from moving into Weston.

Violators of the ban would face a $500 fine. They also would have to pay for tests to determine the substances' chemical compounds.
