CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two married former Mingo County school employees sent female students explicit sexual messages and video chats on Facebook, police said.
The West Virginia State Police on Thursday arrested Justin Lee Wellman, 24, and Alandra Deseray Wellman, 23, of 12264 North Big Creek Road, Hatfield, Ky., in connection to alleged conversations they had with two girls from Feb. 1 to March 5.
Justin Wellman was a custodian at Matewan Middle School. Alandra Wellman worked as a teachers' assistant at Burch Middle School in Delbarton.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court, the couple exchanged sexual photos and messages online with a 14-year-old girl. The girl attends one of the schools where the Wellmans had worked. The couple performed sexual acts on Facebook video chat while the victim watched, according to the complaint.
Justin Wellman also allegedly sent Facebook messages and photos to a 13-year-old female student and attempted to meet and have sex with her.
The couple turned themselves in to the State Police Thursday. The Wellmans both signed written statements confessing to the crimes, according to the complaint.
Alandra Wellman was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, soliciting a minor via the Internet, displaying obscene matter with intent to seduce a minor, possessing child erotica, use of a minor to assist sexual conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Justin Wellman was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, soliciting a minor via the Internet, use of a minor to assist in sexual conduct, possessing child erotica and conspiracy to commit a felony, according to the complaint.
Alandra Wellman is being held without bail in the Southwestern Regional Jail. Her husband is being held in the same jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Troopers D.C. Moore and T.G. Kania III of the Williamson detachment are leading the investigation.
