BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- A person in Bluefield is undergoing treatment for rabies after being bitten by a raccoon that tested positive for the disease.

The Mercer County Health Department tells media outlets that it's the first rabies case reported in the county this year. Three cases were confirmed in 2012.

The department says the person was trying to intervene between the raccoon and a dog when they were bitten.
