MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Dozens of West Virginia University students are being recognized for volunteer service they provided last year.

The university said 185 students will be awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award by the Center for Civic Engagement.

Students who have completed at least 100 hours of service during a calendar year are eligible to receive the award. Each recipient receives a certificate signed by President Obama and a lapel pin.

The university said that, during 2012, WVU students contributed more than 32,000 hours of service to their communities, estimated at nearly $700,000 worth of their time.
