What was called the "Storm of the Century" hit West Virginia 20 years ago Wednesday, on March 13, 1993. Up to 31 inches of snow fell on March 13 and 14, and then-Gov. Gaston Caperton ordered roads throughout the state closed. Shops, restaurants, airports, colleges, funeral homes and just about everything else were shut down. The Sunday Gazette-Mail came out on March 14 and detailed the huge snowstorm. Few people read about it, though, because most newspapers couldn't be delivered.
