DUNBAR, W.Va. -- One lane of the bridge between Dunbar and South Charleston will be closed next week for a bridge inspection.
One lane of the span, known as the old Dunbar toll bridge, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through March 22, according to state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Carrie Bly.
Timing of the partial closure comes as bad news for residents of Nitro and St. Albans, who use the Dunbar bridge as a detour to get between the two cities while the Dick Henderson Memorial Bridge is being replaced. The span between Nitro and St. Albans is expected to reopen in November.
Bly said the Dunbar bridge will still be usable during the inspection. "You can still get across," she said. "From 9 to 3 you're going to encounter one lane."Bly said both lanes will be open during morning and evening rush hours. "It will be open during the peak travel hours," she said. "I'm sure that's why they picked that time [9 a.m. to 3 p.m.]."
