BELINGTON, W.Va. -- A propane tanker is burning for the eighth straight day in Belington, and nearby homes have been evacuated.
Authorities have no idea how long it will take to exhaust the fuel supply inside the burning tank at Sisolack's Truck Repair.
The Southern States truck was carrying nearly 4,000 gallons when it ignited.
Firefighters have been spraying water to keep the tank cool, but they've struggled with frozen valves this week.
Belington Fire Chief Phil Hart said residents voluntarily left the area Thursday.
He said he's concerned about the integrity of the tank. After more than a week under flame, its components could be weakening. Plumbing failures could lead to a larger, faster-burning fire.
A state fire marshal has been to the scene but can't investigate until the flames are out.
