State taking requests for help with home heating

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- State officials will start accepting applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program today.

The applications are available at all West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources offices. The program will run until the state's funding for it is exhausted.

Residents must apply in person and meet certain income-eligibility requirements.

Officials say applicants also must have some emergency that can cause disruption to their home's primary heating source. Applicants with natural gas or electric service must bring cut-off notices when they apply.

Households that rely on other heating sources or bulk fuel may qualify for aid if their supplies are low.
