SPENCER, W,Va. -- Roane County Schools dismissed students early Monday afternoon because of concerns about flooding.

The Speed Road and Reedyville Road areas were already covered with water by noon Monday, according to county school transportation officials.

Schools in Hampshire, Mineral, Hardy, Pendleton and Grant counties were also closed Monday due to weather conditions.

An official with the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said there were a few low-lying roads around the Charleston area closed Monday afternoon because of flooding.

By Monday evening, no flood watches or warnings were in effect in the state. Still, some winter weather advisories remained in effect in the Eastern Panhandle.
