CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's annual Archery in the Schools tournament is being held at the Charleston Civic Center this weekend.

Students from 27 schools will compete on Saturday. Awards will be presented to the top three boys and girls in elementary, middle and high school divisions. The top three schools in each division and the top three overall also receive awards.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 17.

Tens of thousands of students have been introduced to archery as part of their physical education classes since the program's inception in 2004. The tournament is open to schools that received Division of Natural Resources-sponsored training.

This year, for the first time, qualifying tournaments were held at schools, and scores were submitted online. A record 858 students participated.
