Rockslide shuts down northbound I-77 near Bluefield
Advertiser

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- A rockslide in Southern West Virginia has blocked both lanes of northbound Interstate 77 near the Virginia border.

Media outlets report the slide covered both northbound lanes Wednesday afternoon in Mercer County between Bluefield and Princeton.

Division of Highways engineer Rob White says crews could hear cracking noises along the hillside and were waiting for safer conditions before cleaning up the slide.

Northbound interstate traffic was being rerouted onto U.S. 460 to Princeton, where it reconnects with I-77. Southbound lanes remain open.
