ROANOKE, W.Va. -- School cooks from across West Virginia will battle it out to see who can make the best rolls, entrees or side dishes.

The competition is being held this afternoon at Stonewall Resort in Lewis County.

Cooks will prepare rolls using at least 50 percent whole grain flour. The entrees and side dishes must contain at least one-fourth cup of dark green or red-orange vegetables.

Cooks can work alone or in teams of three. About 150 cooks and county food service directors are expected to participate. Winning teams in each category will receive $500.

The event also includes a trade show with food and equipment vendors.

State Office of Child Nutrition Executive Director Richard Goff says the contest gives school cooks the chance to showcase their creativity and cooking skills.
