CHELYAN, W.Va. -- A Kanawha County woman was arrested this morning after allegedly trying to steal her boyfriend's car, dragging him a short distance across a parking lot in Chelyan.

Cpl. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said a call came into Metro 911 before 9 a.m. about a pedestrian being struck at the Go Mart in Chelyan.

"Really it was more of a domestic dispute," Humphreys said.

Humphreys said Leslie Ann Dent, 29, of East Bank, allegedly got into a fight with her boyfriend and the two parted company. Dent allegedly then spotted her boyfriend's car at Go Mart and hopped in the vehicle to drive off.

The boyfriend grabbed onto the door handle as Dent was allegedly pulling away and was dragged a short distance, Humphreys said. He was not seriously hurt.

Deputies caught up with Dent and discovered she had an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to pay child support, Humphreys said.

Dent was charged with domestic battery, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

She was being held Thursday in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bail.
