Safariland Group acquires Mustang Survival

ELIZABETH, W.Va. -- Wirt County's largest employer has a new owner.

Safariland Group has acquired Mustang Survival, which employs about 100 workers at its plant in Elizabeth.

Mustang Survival also has a plant in Spencer that employs about 60 workers.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Safariland announced the acquisition this week in a news release.

Safariland manufactures protective products and equipment primarily for police and the military. Mustang Survival manufactures inflatable personal flotation devices, flotation clothing and other life-saving equipment for recreational, military, law enforcement and industrial users in marine and aviation environments.

Jackson/Roane County Development Authority executive director Mark Whitley tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel that local officials are optimistic about the Elizabeth and Spencer facilities' future opportunities.
