Snowshoe extends ski season
SNOWSHOE, W.Va. -- Thanks to 5 feet of snow in March, including 2 feet during the past week, Snowshoe Mountain Resort, which had been scheduled to close on Sunday, is extending its season through April 7.
Forty trails are available to skiers and snowboarders at the Pocahontas County resort. Snowshoe will reopen its Silver Creek section Friday through Sunday, giving skiers and riders access to 40 trails and 7 lifts.
Timberline Four Seasons resort in Tucker County and Winterplace Resort between Beckley and Princeton, with all trails open due to the abundance of natural snow, are scheduled to close for the season Sunday afternoon. Timberline is offering $1 lift tickets on its Easter Sunday season finale, which runs from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Trails also remain open at White Grass Touring Center in Canaan Valley, the state's largest Nordic ski area, where snow depths ranging from 12 to 30 inches were reported on Wednesday.
