CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A 16-year-old Winfield High School student who had been missing for five days was found Wednesday night, according to the Winfield police chief.
Police began searching for Megan Leanne Holbert last Friday after she didn't return home from school.
Chief John Perrine said the situation involved some "clouded issues of custodial control."
Holbert, according to Perrine, had told some people at school she didn't plan to come back. "So we knew it was her plan to run away," he said.
Police said the girl was "safe and sound" after a friend dropped her off at her grandmother's house in Eleanor.
"We're still looking into the situation to see if there's anything we can do to prevent this from happening in the future," Perrine said.
