USPS moves up closure of Clarksburg center

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. -- The U.S. Postal Service is moving up the closure of its processing and distribution center in Clarksburg.

Postal Service spokeswoman Cathy Yarosky says the center will close by the end of summer. It originally was scheduled to close in February 2014.

Yarosky attributed the change to the Postal Service's financial problems.

The center's operations will be transferred to Charleston and Pittsburgh. It's among 118 mail processing centers that are being closed.

More than 100 people are employed at the Clarksburg center.

Yarosky said the Postal Service will work closely with employees to minimize the closure's impact on them.

The Postal Service lost $1.3 billion in the final three months of 2012, following a nearly $16 billion loss the previous fiscal year.
