Elkins music workshops

ELKINS, W.Va. -- The Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College has released the dates for its summer sessions on music, dance, crafts and folklore.

Weekly themes are Cajun/Creole and early country music, July 7-12; blues/swing, July 14-19; Irish/Celtic, July 21-26; bluegrass, July 28-Aug. 2; and old-time vocal and dance, Aug. 4-11.

Augusta for Kids, designed for ages 8-12, is offered during July 28-Aug. 2 and Aug. 4-11, and will teach students to weave, knot, create collages and other techniques for making useful and decorative items. Music, dance and storytelling also will be explored.

Each week, optional mini courses will be available from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Students can learn various talents including weaving, harmonica performance and accordion repair.

Classes and performances are being made final, and updates appear regularly on Augusta's website augustaheritagecenter.org, where online registration also is available.

Twice weekly performances by class instructors are given, and dances are held in the Augusta Pavilion almost every night.

The five-week sessions lead up to the annual Augusta Festival Aug. 9-11.

Chocolate festival

LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- The seventh annual Lewisburg Chocolate Festival takes place April 13 throughout the town.

The festival includes numerous chocolate-themed events including musical performances, dinners and tastings. Ticket holders will be able to sample chocolate treats from featured chocolatiers. Babcock run and walk

CLIFFTOP, W.Va. -- The ninth annual Gristmill Grinder and Three-Mile Walk is set for 10 a.m. April 13 at Babcock State Park.

The half-marathon trail run consists of a figure-8 loop course. There is a gradual uphill grade approaching the finish.

Naturalist hike
