Mingo commission appoints widow to husband's post as sheriff
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Mingo County Commission has appointed Rosie Crum, the wife of slain Sheriff Eugene Crum, to her husband's post.
Sheriff Eugene Crum, was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon as he was sitting in his car in downtown Williamson.
Officials said at a news conference Wednesday evening that Williamson Police Chief Dave Rockel was slated to take over the sheriff position in Crum's stead. Commissioners were not immediately available for comment Thursday, but an office staffer confirmed that Rosie Crum had been appointed sheriff.
