CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two West Virginia volunteer fire departments are getting nearly $177,000 in federal funds for new equipment and training.
The Gilbert Volunteer Fire Department will receive more than $111,000. The Maysville Volunteer Fire Department will get nearly $66,000.
U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin and Rep. Nick Rahall announced the grants Thursday. Manchin said the funds would allow the departments to buy state-of-the-art protection and rescue equipment, as well as provide professional training for responding to all types of emergencies.
