Udream mattress brand makes debut at Home Show
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Innovative Mattress Solutions' latest line celebrates not only company President Kim Knopf's dreams, but also its customers' dreams, Knopf said this week.
Udream debuted at the annual West Virginia Home Show at the Charleston Civic Center this weekend.
The home show, which started Friday, runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon until 5 p.m. Sunday.
"For the 30th anniversary in business, we thought about the dream I had when I graduated college," Knopf said when discussing the product's name. "This whole connotation around 'dream' is the ability for people to go to bed at night, have good dreams and feel rested and rejuvenated."
Udream is more than just a name, it's a brand the mattress company created, she said.
The new mattress collection offers a conventional innerspring mattress and a memory foam mattress with gel-infused material. Udream is more stable, has a stronger seating edge, and its foundation is made of steel instead of wood, Knopf said.
"We created this bedding line that has a lot of different features to it to offer good comfort and support," Knopf said. "It will outlast most mattresses."
Knopf's company, which she started at 23 on Seventh Avenue in South Charleston, has outlasted many businesses.
Innovative Mattress Solutions, which operates as Mattress Warehouse, Sleep Outfitters, Mattresses Unlimited and Mattress King, has about 150 stores in six states.
The company doubled its employees in five years, from 250 in 2008 to nearly 500 today, she said.
The mattress company sells at least 10 different national brands, like Tempur-Pedic and Sealy.
"We've had an expansive footprint for being a regional retailing chain," Knopf said.
Launching a product is very important, especially how to go about marketing it, she said.
That's why setting up a booth at the West Virginia Home Show, a tradition in the state for more than 50 years, is key.
Home show attendees have the chance to lie on the Udream mattress and talk to company representatives, she said.
The show is a "great opportunity" for the company because "we can get the most amount of customers at one time," Knopf said. "We do all kinds of marketing but we like to go where the people are."
More than 250 exhibitors are booked to appear at this weekend's showcase. Visitors will be able to see and sample thousands of home improvement products and ideas from hundreds of local and national providers.
Daily admission to this weekend's Home Show is $7 for adults, $6 for those over age 65 and $1 for children ages 2 to 12. When accompanying by a paying adult, children under age 2 will be admitted at no charge.
