Police make arrest in Kanawha City bank robbery
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tipsters identified a man who allegedly carried a gun into the Fifth Third Bank in Kanawha City and demanded money on Thursday morning.
Danny Allen Summers, 40, of Dunbar, was arrested and charged with first-degree bank robbery.
No one was injured in the robbery at the MacCorkle Avenue bank, which happened about 9:20 a.m.
According to a criminal complaint on file in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, Summers allegedly walked behind a customer, pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the bank teller. The teller handed over $1,300 in cash and then Summers allegedly ran out and down a nearby alleyway, the complaint said.
Police later released security footage of the robber, who was sporting a thick moustache and wearing sunglasses. Multiple people called 911 Thursday evening identifying Summers as the suspect, according to the complaint.
Detectives went to Summers' apartment along Myers Avenue in Dunbar and got consent to search. Police found all the cash in $1 and $5 bills and dark-colored sunglasses, according to the complaint.
Detectives also noticed Summers had shaved his moustache but missed a patch. Summers was taken to the police station where he allegedly told police he committed the robbery, according to the complaint. He said he removed all his clothing and threw it random places after the robbery. He later dumped the gun in Mink Shoals, according to the complaint. Detectives located the clothing and gun.
Kanawha County Magistrate Joe Shelton set Summers' bail at $100,000 cash-only. He was being held in South Central Regional Jail.
