National Park Service seeks Jamboree volunteers

MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. -- The National Park Service is looking for volunteers to help with activities related to the Boy Scouts of America's 2013 National Jamboree.

The agency said it will be conducting several activities during the event, scheduled for July 15-24 in Southern West Virginia.

More than 50,000 Scouts, volunteers and staff are expected to attend the jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Fayette County.

The New River Gorge National River said volunteers are needed to help with trail building and supervision of Scouts constructing the new trail.

They'll also need volunteers to operate the park's visitor center and to staff information tents.

Park staff will hold one-day training sessions in June. In addition to the training day, volunteers must be able to commit at least two days of service during the event.
