Art auction to benefit child abuse victims

By Staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  -- The West Virginia Child Advocacy Network (WVCAN) will host a silent art auction from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Romano & Associates, 230 Capitol St. The event will coincide with the first Art Walk in downtown Charleston this year.

Artists have donated more than 25 pieces of art ranging from ceramics to oils to photography to hand-carved stone. There is no entry fee for the auction and the public is invited to attend. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Proceeds will be split, with half going to the artist and half going to benefit services for child abuse victims in West Virginia.

The Art Auction is a part of "One With Courage," WVCAN's statewide public awareness campaign centered on protecting children from abuse. "One With Courage" highlights the bravery that it takes for child victims to talk about their abuse and calls on all adults to have similar courage to identify abuse and know how to respond. The campaign also highlights the unique role children's advocacy centers play in providing comprehensive, coordinated and compassionate services to child victims of abuse.

The West Virginia Child Advocacy Network is a statewide coalition of Child Advocacy Centers. The One With Courage Art Auction is sponsored by Romano & Associates, the Arts Council of Kanawha Valley, and WOWK-TV.
