Raleigh woman shot dead after aiming gun at troopers
COAL CITY, W.Va. -- State Police shot and killed a woman after she allegedly pointed a rifle at troopers in Raleigh County on Thursday night.
Spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous said a woman called 911 dispatchers and threatened to kill herself at 7 p.m.
Troopers found Lisa Renee Miller, 47, behind her house along Coal City Road in Coal City with a rifle, Baylous said. Troopers tried reasoning with Miller and she talked on her phone to 911 dispatchers, he said.
"At one point she got agitated and threw the phone down, spun around and pointed her weapon at them," Baylous said. "They shot and killed her -- one of them did."
The trooper involved has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following officer-involved shootings. The trooper could seek counseling or chaplain services provided by the State Police, Baylous said.
