Make way for the circus
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, led by ringmaster Jonathan Lee Iverson (pictured with his sidekick, Paulo), returns to the Charleston Civic Center Wednesday with a dragon-themed show that combines mystic dragon lore with circus feats. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m., 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday.
Prior to the circus' start, you can see the Grand Animal Walk, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Broad and Smith streets (near Capitol Market) and runs to the Civic Center. At 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, the pachyderms dine at their annual Elephant Brunch alongside the Charleston Town Center Clendenin Street entrance.
For the duration of the circus' visit, view the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Historical Costume display (including a sequin-embossed elephant blanket and elaborate butterfly headdress) on Level One of the mall.
Tickets range from $15 to $85 for circus performances. All other activities are free. Call 800-745-3000 or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
