WHEELING, W.Va. -- A Virginia woman charged with embezzling more than $1 million in horse racing funds from a West Virginia casino and racetrack began Tuesday.
The trial of Reva resident Anita Ambler is in U.S. District Court in Wheeling.
Judge Frederick P. Stamp Jr. heard the final pre-trial motions in the case Monday.
Ambler is charged with embezzling the money from Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester over several years.
She faces 11 counts of mail fraud, 10 counts of wire fraud and four counts of transacting in criminal proceeds.
Prosecutors say Ambler covered her thefts with fake entries in Mountaineer's accounting system, and that she spent about $200,000 on a house and 5 acres in Virginia.
