Va. resident in serious condition after Canaan plane crash
DAVIS, W.Va. -- Three northern Virginia residents remain hospitalized a day after their small plane crashed at a Tucker County airstrip.
The crash happened Friday in Canaan Valley near Davis at the Windwood Fly-In Resort, which has a 3,000-foot runway.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. State Police Cpl. M.A. Roy in Parsons said witnesses reported the single-engine Cessna touched down but ran out of room. The pilot tried to pull back up and the plane clipped the tops of trees.
Roy identified the pilot as Waseem Haider, 46, of Great Falls, Va. The passengers were Shujjat Rathore, 48, of McLean, Va., and Muhammad Paracha, 46, of Great Falls, Va.
Ruby Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Amy Johns said Rathore was in serious condition Saturday. Haider was in fair condition and Paracha was in good condition.
