The state Department of Transportation has been given responsibility for maintaining the West Virginia-shaped planter at the Greenbrier Street exit of Interstate 64 East.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The unkempt appearance of the West Virginia-shaped planter at the Greenbrier Street exit of Interstate 64 East soon will improve.

The state Department of Transportation was given responsibility for the bed, which had been designed and planted most recently by the state General Services Division.

DOT employees will clean out the rock-bordered bed in May and plant in a layout consistent with previous designs, said DOT spokeswoman Carrie Bly.
