Judge denies sentence leniency to Clendenin sex offender

By Staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Clendenin man who pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges last year asked a judge to reconsider his sentence Tuesday, but Kanawha County Circuit Judge Charles King denied Billy Townsend's request, according to Kanawha Prosecutor Mark Plants.

Townsend, 41, had been sentenced to 51 to 205 years -- 25 to 100 on two first-degree sexual-assault charges and one to five years on a third-degree sexual-assault charge.

Plants said Townsend had asked the judge to allow his sentence to run concurrently, which would change it to about 25 to 100 years, Plants said.
