Tractor-trailer crash injures 3; I-77 reopens
BECKLEY, W.Va. -- One northbound lane has reopened after a car struck a tractor-trailer along Interstate 77 in the Beckley area.
State Police dispatchers said a driver lost control and crossed into the path of a FedEx truck off the median near the Harper Road and Mabscott exits at 1 p.m.
One driver was taken to a nearby hospital by a HealthNet helicopter and paramedics took two other drivers by ambulance.
The state Department of Transportation said the tractor-trailer caught fire and might contain hazardous materials. A Hazmat crew was on scene.
Dispatchers said the material had not leaked out of its container and would be cleaned up within a couple of hours.
The accident had closed that section of the interstate for several hours Thursday while traffic diverted off nearby exits.
Dispatchers said the accident remains under investigation.
