CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Shady Spring Middle School, in Raleigh County, won the West Virginia State History Bowl, beating out 23 other teams from around the state that had qualified for the state finals through regional tournaments.
The team of eighth-graders bested their competition in answering questions about state and county history, culture, heritage and tourism.
Fairview Middle School, in Marion County, came in second at the competition held Tuesday at the Culture Center in Charleston.
The winning team members were Rachel Carrico, Kristen Miller, Peyton Michaels and Ryan Young. Young was named most valuable player.
