Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to the next Open Stage and Coffee House with guest Ron Sowell on Friday at 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. Local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. The performers sign up at 7 p.m. and the music begins at 7:30 pm. General admission is $5.Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost. Ron Sowell's Open Stage and Coffee House takes place on the second Friday of every month.
Trail club hike
Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike Sunday in Mountwood Park near Parkersburg. Meet at 12:30 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at the marina. The hike is about 5 miles on rolling hills with spring wild flowers.
The Greater Sissonville Development Council board will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the Sissonville Library. Agenda items include Sissonville library funding, website; Sissonville Relay for Life to be held June 7-8; and the Sissonville Spring Fever Car Show. The Board of Directors of the Kanawha County Public Library system will meet at 4 p.m. Monday in the Main Library, 123 Capitol St. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in the John V. Ray Room, third floor. Call 304-343-4646 for information.
Putnam County Democrat Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Putnam County Courthouse, second floor, to discuss events for 2013. Bring a covered dish and a friend.
The Southern Appalachian Labor School needs book donations for its June 15 book sale to be held at its Oak Hill Center. To donate in Charleston, people can call Gary Zuckett at 304-346-5891. In Montgomery, books can be left at City Hall, and in Oak Hill, call Barbara Painter at 304-465-4246. For those unable to drop them off, books can be picked up.
