Charleston police seek suspect in soda truck break-in

By Staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police detectives need help identifying a man they said broke into a soda delivery truck Thursday at Saint Francis Hospital.

Charleston Police Detective E.J. Tipton said security cameras captured the suspect walking through the hospital at noon Thursday.

The suspect later got into a blue box-style van to pull up beside a Coca-Cola delivery truck parked outside the hospital. The suspect broke out the truck's passenger side window to get to the truck's safe, Tipton said. The man got into his van and drove away empty-handed when someone inside the hospital heard the glass breaking.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Charleston Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at 304-348-6480.

The suspect was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and camouflage shorts. He was wearing a black hat that he took off to reveal short, dark hair.

Tipton said the suspect is facing a misdemeanor charge of destruction of property.
