Weirton considers dropping city primary election
WEIRTON, W.Va. -- Weirton officials are considering eliminating the city's primary election.
The proposal is one of several election-rated changes to the city's charter suggested by a committee. Other proposed changes include holding municipal elections at the same time as county and state elections and consolidating poll sites.
City Clerk Nicole Davis tells The Herald-Star of Steubenville, Ohio, that the changes would reduce the city's election costs.
Davis says the city spent about $48,000 on the 2011 municipal election, up about $6,500 from 2007.
