ST. ALBANS, W.Va.-- A Kanawha County man who was high on methamphetamine was arrested Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a home in St. Albans, police say.
Capt. James Agee of the St. Albans Police Department said a resident of the 2000 block of Seventh Avenue, near St. Albans High School, called police at about 5 p.m. to say a man had broken into her basement and was beating on the back door of her house.
When officers arrived, they were allegedly met by David A. Pettry, 28, of Miami, who allegedly had a hatchet and a large hunting knife in his hands.
Pettry allegedly told officers he was high on methamphetamine and was just trying to get some help, Agee said. He was told to put the weapons down and was arrested without further incident.
Pettry was charged with daytime burglary.
