Three West Virginia volunteer fire departments are sharing more than $222,000 in federal funds.
Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin and Rep. Nick Rahall, all D-W.Va., say the money will be used to buy new safety equipment and prevent fire-related injuries and deaths.
The departments receiving the funding are the Fairlea Volunteer Fire Department, the Newburg Volunteer Fire Department, and the Triune-Halleck Volunteer Fire Department in Morgantown.Funding from the Assistance to Firefighters grant program helps fire departments buy new equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources to keep communities safe from fire-related hazards. It is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
