PSC looks into billing, other complaints against Mon Power, PE

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Public Service Commission of West Virginia launched a general investigation into customer service, meter reading and billing practices of the Monongahela Power Company and Potomac Edison Friday in light of numerous customer complaints.

Mon Power and Potomac Edison are both subsidiaries of FirstEnergy Corporation. The PSC has directed both companies to file written responses to questions about changes in meter reading and billing practices, the frequency and methods used to read meters and estimate customer bills and information concerning customer complaints. Mon Power and PE are required to file their responses by June 28.

According to its order, the PSC investigation will evaluate practices, policies and procedures for Mon Power and PE at a structural level. The PSC will also pursue individual customer complaints it has received. Mon Power and PE serve more than 520,000 customers in 37 counties in West Virginia.
